“Bethlehem’s Busy” will be held Wednesday, December 16 from 6:30pm-8:30pm

Children’s Ministry Christmas Event

Imagine Friendship Hall turned into a bustling
market place of Bible times. Now imagine that
each market booth from perfumery to bakery has
a message that points children to Jesus through
interactive object lessons, crafts and drama. This
was the scene of last year’s Children’s Ministry
Christmas event, and we’re getting ready for this
year’s sequel.
“Bethlehem’s Busy” will be held Wednesday,
December 16th from 6:30—8:30 p.m.
at First Presbytarian Church Lake Placid
This year we are including a potter, cobbler and
cloth merchant, in addition to some of the
favorites from last year. To create the “busy—No
Room at the Inn” feeling, we need folks willing to
dress in Bible Times costume and be a part of the
setting by simply strolling in the marketplace.
Last year we had nearly 100 children
attending. We would love to reach even more
children in our community, so please plan on
being a part of this and inviting the children or
grandchildren of friends, neighbors and the
classmates of your children.

What Christmas Is All About

What Christmas Is All About

Christmas will always be for us
A time to reflect on Christ
The gift God gave to all the world
Was the gift of His life
We know Christmas is not about tinsel
Nor fancy Christmas wreaths
Nor is it about all the decorations
That adorns our Christmas trees
And it’s not about Holly or Mistletoe
Hanging from our doors
Nor is it about the gifts that are left
By the jolly Santa Claus
Christmas is more than all of this
And the only reason why
We celebrate Christ’s birth together
And the wonder of His life
So remember as you celebrate
Just what it’s all about
And invite the Lord to join with you
Instead of leaving Him out
For He will always be the reason
We celebrate this day
No substitute the world may offer
Can take that meaning away

Why Jesus is Better Than Santa Claus?

◦Santa lives at the North Pole…JESUS is everywhere.

◦Santa rides in a sleigh…JESUS rides on the wind and walks on the water.

◦Santa comes but once a year…JESUS is an ever present help.

◦Santa fills your stockings with goodies…JESUS supplies all your needs.

◦Santa comes down your chimney uninvited…JESUS stands at your door and knocks, and then enters your heart when invited.

◦You have to wait in line to see Santa…JESUS is as close as the mention of His name.

◦Santa lets you sit on his lap…JESUS lets you rest in His arms.

◦Santa doesn’t know your name, all he can say is “Hi little boy or girl, what’s your name?”…JESUS knew our name before we were born. Not only does He know our name, He knows our address too. He knows our history and future and He even knows how many hairs are on our heads.

◦Santa has a belly like a bowl full of jelly…JESUS has a heart full of love

◦All Santa can offer is HO HO HO…JESUS offers health, help and hope.

◦Santa says “You better not cry”…JESUS says “Cast all your cares on me for I care for you.”

◦Santa’s little helpers make toys…JESUS makes new life, mends wounded hearts, repairs broken homes and builds mansions.

◦Santa may make you chuckle but…JESUS gives you joy that is your strength.

◦While Santa puts gifts under your tree…JESUS became our gift and died on a tree…the cross.

We need to put Christ back in CHRISTmas, Jesus is still the reason for the season.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

Are You a Microwave or Crock Pot?

By Kimberly Chastain

http://www.christianworkingmom.com/

In our fast paced society we often want everything done quickly or your boss wants it done yesterday. In your spiritual life are you a Microwave or Crock Pot? I think often we want God to answer our prayers in Microwave fashion. I prayed a specific request today and I want it answered today. If our prayers are not answered quickly, we often wonder, "What is God doing?" We also decide to go it on our own and not wait for God's direction. Often it is difficult to wait on God's timing.

When we are in Crock pot mode we pray and rest in the knowledge that God's timing is best. Often, God may have to let several things simmer in our life before he answers our prayer. Many times in my life I have seen God's handiwork after the situation is over. If God had answered my prayer the way I wanted him to, it would not have gone well at all. God knows what is best for us and when it is best for something to happen.

I look at Scripture and see God works in Microwave and Crock Pot mode. When Daniel was in the lion's den God worked immediately to shut the mouths of the lions. I have to admit if I was Daniel I would want to know why God didn't act before I got thrown in the lion's den. Daniel being thrown in the lion's den was used to reflect God's glory and power. God also works in Crock Pot mode. Do you remember Joshua and the battle of Jericho? The people of Israel were marching around a wall for 7 days. Don't you imagine they asked God, "Why?" During that time Rahab was getting her family ready to leave Jericho. Could it be that God took seven days of marching around Jericho, to save one woman and her family? Could it be that God took that time for one woman who was faithful to God in spite of her lifestyle, in spite of her whole community being against God to show his glory? Most of the Israelites did not know about Rahab, but God did. In God's perfect timing he rescued the Israelites and Rahab, not in the way the Israelites would have wanted. God gave them victory in the battle in Crock pot mode.

So, I ask you are you in Microwave mode or Crock Pot mode in your spiritual life? Please remember God is always in control even when it feels everything is out of control. Trust God's timing and know he only wants what is best for you.
